Hello and welcome! Cobblestone Lane Gallery is an interior styling and art consulting firm run by me, Tara Clayton. I design colorful and pattern-heavy spaces for everyday living. I love to combine new and vintage furniture with original artwork, fine papers, and artistic textiles, and I believe my speciality is providing the “finishing touches” to a home.
Prior to starting Cobblestone Lane Gallery, I spent a decade studying art history with a specialization in modernism and worked at museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and in the permanent collection at my alma mater, Davidson College. I also interned at the Museum of Modern Art and P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center. During this time, I moved frequently (13 times, to be exact!) and my interior design bug caught up with my love for art. I wanted to create a one-stop art and interior styling company where clients received a design that placed equal consideration on furniture, fabrics, and the perfect pieces of art.
I use my art world experience in a variety of ways and I love the breadth of my projects. I liaise between artists and clients who are commissioning artwork for their homes and help my clients select decor to amplify these works. Additionally, I source vintage artwork for display in vignettes and gallery walls, where I often place older works with modern and contemporary pieces. Sometimes, a space is simply inspired by an artwork that a client has already and I source the right furniture to support that work. I collect artwork and have also helped clients start or add to their own collections. Oftentimes, the artwork is on the furniture upholstery itself in the form of a beautiful fabric.
Wherever my projects take me, my focus is to create spaces that are embedded with an artful approach from beginning to end and at every step in between. I believe art and design go hand in hand and that one category cannot function at its full potential without the other. Together, they tell a story and inject a feeling into a space. I believe that to be the secret ingredient to a lasting design that reflects the personality of the home and its inhabitants.
Thank you for stopping by and please reach out with any questions and project inquiries!
